Chinese visas are categorized into four main types: diplomatic visa, courtesy visa, service visa, and ordinary visa. Among these, the ordinary visa is the most commonly issued and is further divided into 12 sub-types, covering 16 different categories based on the purpose of entry, such as tourism, business, work, study, and family visits.

Each visa type corresponds to specific travel intentions and comes with unique application requirements, validity periods, and permitted lengths of stay.

How to Apply for a Chinese Visa

To apply for a Chinese visa, applicants must prepare the following core documents:

1. Valid Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your intended date of entry into China. It should also have at least one blank visa page.

2. Completed Visa Application Form

The official visa application form can be downloaded from the website of the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country. Fill it out electronically, print it, and sign it by hand.

3. Recent Photograph

Submit two color passport-style photos (size: 48mm x 33mm) with a clear front view of the full face, no headwear, and a plain background.

4. Supporting Documents

Depending on your visa type, you will need to provide relevant documentation such as:

  • Invitation letters for business or family visits,
  • Flight and hotel bookings for tourism,
  • Admission notices for study visas,
  • Work permits for employment-related visas.

Make sure the documents match the purpose stated in your visa application.
